For the last month, I have been reading books to vote on for the Whitney Awards. As a member of the Storymaker’s Guild, I vote, with other members, on the finalist books for the winners.
Usually, I only vote in three categories or read 15 books, this year I am reading and voting in four. that is twenty books to read in a little over two months. There were a couple I read previously and so far I am finished with 12/20. Reading to vote is a bit different, as I have to compare the books. So I keep track of things like how often I got distracted by Facebook, how long I read before putting the book down, writing style, etc.
I have found some gems and will share my favorites after the winners are announced in May.
